Our Story
We are a community of gardeners passionate about growing food while supporting community. We are involved with decision making on garden policies and activities under the leadership of a volunteer Board. MCG has a non-profit status under Farmer to Farmer, Inc a 501(c)3 non-profit which enables us to apply for grants. Our story began in 2010 when we became the reality of a group of community leaders and energetic Americorp Vista Volunteers. Growth was slow the first several years as challenges were being met one by one. In 2014, after getting a water line to the garden, we saw steady growth in number of plots rented as well as building of community. Common gardens were added in the years that followed.
The city of Menomonie leased this 2 acre plot which is a part of Phalen Park. Gardening at MCG can not be a commercial venture nor can we construct permanent structure. Our accomplishments are listed on the Donate tab along with affiliations to many local organizations. Garden business meetings have been held monthly except for last year due to the pandemic. Minutes from meetings are posted on the website. The public is welcome to attend. Translation services are available through U.W. Extension. Please ask us how to connect with them.
